Patrik 9 years!

Patrik turned 9 years yesterday but we didn't have time for celebration since I hurt my arm while wrestling and spent my evening by sitting at health center and then at hospital. Well the good thing is that nothing got broken but it still hurts like hell.

So today we gave Patrik his present, a brand new Frisbee  He's addicted to that blue Frisbee of his but it's almost broken and covered with crap and mud and all so this was a perfect present for this man-child who still doesn't realize that he's supposed to be senior. He's healthy, happy and very energetic.

Our puppy-plans are ruined again.. Well hopefully next year is better and everything go as planned, I hope that isn't too much asked.

Autumn is finally here

Thank god that hot and exhausting summer is over. It wasn't that enjoyable for people so I can imagine how it must have felt for those who have black and heavy fur. Patrik sure enjoyed the trips to the beach and night-time walks but daytime wasn't that easy for him. If I had let him, he would have played with his Frisbee like 24/7 but I had to forbid him for playing with it for hours. It was so hot out there and this "senior" was playing his ass off.

I've never met a dog like this. He's about to turn 9 years but most people can't believe it. Let me explain it wit this video. Imagine hours and hours of this kind of behavior every day. He sure can enjoy his life and little things. Like a little blue Frisbee.

I'm terribly, terribly sorry for forgetting to update this blog. The truth is that I've been so tired during holidays that I haven't had the energy to write blogs.

Patrik is doing fine, he enjoys his live with my family and misses me as much as I miss him. On weekends we play, go for long walks and stuff like that. Patrik has put on a little weight so we're giving him less food and treats now. Other than that, he's healthy and judging by his behavior he could be 3 years old rather than almost 9.

And here's some pictures of Patrik. As you can see, he sure can enjoy his calm and joyful days here in the middle of woods and fields.

Kuulumisten päivittelyä

Lentosotamies Minkkinen täällä koittaa epätoivoisesti herätellä henkiin taas blogia... Viikonloppulomat on tähän mennessä kuluneet niin pitkälti rentoutuessa ja rötvätessä että en ole jaksanut istuutua koneen ääreen.

Patrikille kuuluu oikein hyvää. Ikävöin sitä kovasti viikolla, välillä on useammankin viikon mittaisia aikoja jolloin en pääse lomille, silloin etenkin pappakoira on mielessä ja kaipaus on kova. Sillä on kaikki hyvin kotona, mitäpä erikoista tuollaisen seniorikoiran elämässä nyt tapahtuisikaan..

Pari kertaa olen nyt lomilla käynyt sen kanssa tokoilemassa, kun meidän kerhon treenit alkoivat taas. Patu on siellä ainoa kypsempään ikään ehtinyt tokoilija, mutta tuolla innolla ja kunnolla se ei jää siellä ainakaan jälkeen. Päinvastoin, se on tosi reipas ja nopea oppimaan ja motivoituu helposti. Se sukeltelee umpihangessa lelun perässä ja häntä heiluu suoritusten aikana. Se on oppinut jo vähän seuraamaankin, ja perusasentoon se hakeutuu ihan omatoimisesti.

Viikonloppujen parhaita hetkiä ovat kuitenkin rauhalliset lenkit Patrikin kanssa. Siinä lepää omakin mieli kun vaihteeksi saa vaan tallustaa omaan tahtiin ja pysähtyä valokuvailemaan ja leikkimään koiran kanssa. Mukavaa vaihtelua tuolle armeijan arjelle.

I'm desperately trying to wake this blog up.. So far I've spent all my weekends off army just by relaxing and hanging around, I've been too tired for sitting on computer.

Patrik is fine. I miss him a lot when I spend my weeks in army. Sometimes it takes two or three weeks before I get to come home so yeah, I miss him a lot. But he's all right here, his life goes on like it has gone before. 

Sometimes when I'm home for weekend, we go to obedience training. Patrik is the only "old" dog there but since he's so enthusiastic and physically active and healthy, he won't slow down the group. He's energetic and fast to learn and also easy to motivate. He dives in the snow trying to catch his toys and waves his tail all the time. He's also learned to heel!

But the best moments of my weekends are the calm walks with Patrik. It's a great change to rest my mind, just walking, sometimes taking breaks for photographing or playing with Patrik. Always a welcome change after army.

Kuvakuulumisia

Patrikin kanssa töissä viikko sitten! Jaan viikonloppuisin sanomalehtiä omalla autolla, työpäivä alkaa siinä 2-3 pintaan aamuyöllä. Patrik on ollut mulla nyt joka kerta mukana. Yleensä se nukkuu tai katselee maisemia, välillä päästän sen juoksemaan postilaatikoiden väliä (jaan haja-asutusalueilla joissa ei esimerkiksi autoja liiku yöisin).

A week ago, at work with Patrik. I deliver newspapers by my own car at weekends and my work starts at 2-3 AM. I've had Patrik with me every time. He usually sleeps or watches views, sometimes I let him run from one mailbox to another (I deliver newspapers on countryside so there's no cars at nights). 

Päiväunilla uuden perheenjäsenen kanssa. Hänellä on viimeinkin nimi, se on Hippa.

Eilen satoi lunta! Olipa jouluinen fiilis sen johdosta. Kävin Patrikin kanssa kävelemässä keskustassa. Patrik oli koko lenkin irrallaan ja käyttäytyi oikein hienosti niin luontopolula, kävelytiellä kuin suojatielläkin.

It snowed yesterday! That made me feel so Christmas-y! I went to town with Patrik, we took a walk there. Patrik was off leash for the whole walk and behaved very well on nature tracks, footpaths and crosswalks.

Eilen illalla käytiin tunnin mittaisella kävelyllä. Minä kuuntelin kännykän radiosta jenkkiläisiä jouluradioita ja Patrik juoksenteli irrallaan ja kanteli keppejä ja kieri lumessa. Olipa rentouttava ilta.

Last night we took an hour-long walk. I listened to American Christmas radios from the radio of my phone and Patrik ran off leash, carried sticks and rolled in snow. What a relaxing night.

Uusi perheenjäsen

Torstaina kuulin naapurissa olevista kissanpennuista ja samana iltana piipahdettiin niitä katsomassa. Ihastuttiin kovin yhteen pentuun, joka oli kuitenkin ehtinyt jo saada kodin. Vapaina oli vielä kaksi pentua. Kotona oli edessä muun perheen ylipuhuminen ja yllättäen suostuivat kissan hankintaan. Vielä perjantaina mietittiin, kumpi vapaista pennuista valitaan. Kun sitten oltiin lähdössä kylältä kotiinpäin, ilmoitin äidille että käydään matkalla kissanhiekkaostoksilla ja penturuokaa hankkimassa ja napataan mukaan vapaa tyttöpentu.

Ja niin meille tuli tuo pieni suloisuus. Aika extemporehomma oli tämäkin, ihan kuin Patrikinkin hankinta. Mutta eipä se suunnittelu ja jahkailu aina asioita paremmaksi ja helpommaksi muuta, vielä ainakin ollaan valintaamme tyytyväisiä. Pieni kissa on toistaiseksi nimetön, mutta kutsumanimeltään se on nyt vaan Pieni Kissa. Hauska otus se on! Pelottelee Patrikkia sähisemällä ja murisemalla, ahdistelee isoja kissoja olemalla ylisosiaalinen ja juoksee paikasta toiseen kamalaa vauhtia ja leikkii kaikella mitä eteen sattuu.

Hauskoin piirre siinä on se, että se kantaa tavaroita suussaan! Kenties söpöintä ikinä nähdä 8-viikkoinen kissanpenikka viuhottamassa pitkin kämppää leluhiiri vauvahampaissaan.

Kirjoittelen myöhemmin lisää meidän ensimmäisistä päivistä, nyt pitää mennä nukkumaan!

Last Thursday I heard that our neighbor had kittens. The same evening we went there to see hem. We fell in love with one of the kittens but unfortunately he had been reserved but there was two kittens still available. When we got home, it was surprisingly easy to convince the rest of the family to get a kitten. On Friday we were still wondering which kitten we should take. When I was at town and leaving for home, I called mom and told that we were gonna go to buy cat litter and food for kitten and then go and get that baby girl who was still looking for home.

And that's how we got this cute little thing! We got her without spending much time thinking about it, just like when we got Patrik. But sometimes things won't get better and easier by thinking them over and over again and planning too much. And we're still happy with our choice.

The kitten still has no name, we just call her "Little Cat". She's very funny little thing! She scares Patrik by hissing and growling at him and harasses our older cats by being too social for their taste. And she runs like crazy, from one place to another and plays with everything she can find.

But the funniest thing is that she carries stuff in her mouth! A 8-week-old kitten running like crazy with a toy mouse between her little baby teeth is like the cutest thing ever!

I'll write more about our first days later, now I gotta go to bed!

Näyttelyturismia ja isojen poikien leikkejä

Pari viikkoa sitten lauantaina oltiin siis peltojälkeilemässä leirillä. Viikonloppu oli muutenkin koirapitoinen, sunnuntai-aamu alkoi sillä että tätini tuli kyläilemään koirineen. Matkassa oli pentubeagle Cami ja junnurusseli Viivi.

On Saturday two weeks ago we were practicing FH-track. That weekend was very much about dogs, on Sunday my aunt visited us with her beagle Cami and jackrussellterrier Viivi.

Patrik ja Cami majailivat tyytyväisinä samassa tarhassa.
Yleensä Patu haukkuu ja on ihan lapsellinen kun on
tarhassa, mutta tällä kertaa se käyttäytyi ikänsä mukaisesti.
Patrik and Cami stayed calmly in the same fence.
Usually Patrik barks and acts like a child when he needs
to go there but this time he behaved as a senior should.

Minä ja Patrik lähdettiin Birgitan ja Viivin perässä Muuramen koiranäyttelyyn, Cami jäi meille kotiin vanhempieni kanssa. Näyttelyalueelle oli ilokseni turisteilla ilmainen sisäänpääsy. Kuvailin vähän muita koiria, mutta lähinnä keskityin russeleihin ja erityisesti Viiviin. Kehässä Viivillä oli hirmuisesti virtaa ja ehkä se toi liikaa ilmi terrierimäisyyttään eikä se oikein malttanut juosta kunnolla, silti tuloksena oli ihan mukava EH3.

I and Patrik went to dog show which was held in our town. Birgitta and Viivi came too but Cami stayed at our place with my family. I photographed some other dogs too but mainly focused on jackrussells and especially Viivi. In the ring, Viivi was very energetic and maybe too "terrier", she didn't run properly. Eventually she  got VG3.

Aika pian lähdettiin sitten kotiin päin, Patrikille ostin kuitenkin possunkorvan ja Birgitta shoppaili omille koirilleen.

After that we left the area. Before going home I bought a pig's ear for Patrik and Birgitta bought some stuff for her dogs too.

Ja illalla meille tuli kylään pitkäkarvainen saksanseisoja Piko. Pikon äitihän on Moona, joka oli meillä viikon verran hoidossa viime vuoden keväänä ja jonka esitin muun muassa Jyväskylän KV näyttelyssä 2011. Pojat leikkivät oikein nätisti, Patrik jaksoi yllättävän hyvin juosta pennun perässä ja kärsivällisesti suhtautui siihenkin kun penska halusi jakaa Patrikin suussa olleen kepin.

And later in the evening, German longhaired pointer called Piko visited us. Piko's mom (named Moona) stayed with us last year's spring and I handled her in Jyväskylä INT 2011. The boys behaved very well. Patrik had surprisingly much energy to run with the pup and he was very patient even when the pup wanted to share the stick that Patrik had in his mouth.

Viime aikoina on jäänyt vähemmän aikaa kirjoittamiseen. Silti Patrikin kanssa elämä sujuu kuten tähänkin asti ja kaikin puolin täydelliseltä kaverilta tuo vaikuttaa edelleenkin.
On ollut mukava seurailla koiran tekemisiä ja huomata, miten paljon se muistuttaa aiempia hovawarttejamme. Tästä voisin tehdä oman postauksen jossain vaiheessa. Patrik muistuttaa energisyydeltän paljon Jaroa, mutta siinä on paljon hauskoja iän tuomia piirteitä joita Irolla oli.

Lately I've been too busy to write. But life with Patrik is still as easy as it was before and he seems like a perfect fella for me.
It's been fun to observe him and see how much he resembles our previous hovawarts. I could write a whole new post about this. Patrik is very much like Jaro because of his energy but he has some age-related features that Iro had.

Yksi hauskimmista tavoista mitä sillä on, on leikkiminen. Se on siitä hauska koira ettei se tarvitse edes kaveria leikkimiseen. Tässä on video sen keppileikeistä, noita se harrastaa keskenään niin pitkään että se joko pureskelee kepin paloiksi tai joku kieltää sitä.

One of the funniest habits that he has, is playing. Patrik is funny in a way that he doesn't even need a friend to play with. Here is a video about him playing with sticks. He usually plays until he chews the stick into pieces or someone forbids him.

Lopuksi vielä video jonka tein viime viikolla. Kuvasin yhden iltapäivän aikana klippejä Patrikista lenkillä ja kotosalla ja editoin ne yhteen. Patrik on niin hauska tapaus että sitä on ilo katsella :)

And finally, here's a vide that I made last week. I recorded some clips of Patrik at home and on walk during one day and edited them into one video. Patrik is such a funny dog, it makes me happy to even watch him.
